De Palma Thermofluid is pleased to present you DON, the oval wheel flow meter “made in Kobold”, designed for the accurate measurement of high to low viscosity liquids.
To measure flow rates of viscous fluids with little space and in difficult conditions, the ideal instrument is the DON oval wheel meter, which is optimally designed for these applications. DON, can be used to monitor or dose lubricants, pastes and oils, to measure flow rates of chemical fluids, and also to measure fuel consumption.
Application: Measurement of high viscosity resins
The manufacturing processes in the production of abrasives and super-abrasives require precise dosing even of highly viscous resins (e.g. 1500 cP).
The image on the side shows a dosing skid for this application. Each skid includes the following components:
1. Main tank
2. Secondary tank with low level alarm, to always guarantee sufficient product and absence of air in the circuit
3. Manual valve to close the circuit
4. Peristaltic pump
5. Oval wheel flow meter
6. 3-way valve (for manual or automatic operation)
Application problem:
At higher viscosities depending on temperature changes, the peristaltic pump is unable to move the fluid completely. This means that some of the fluid flows back through the flowmeter causing measurement reading errors. Furthermore, the working pressure developed by the small peristaltic pump is quite low.
Solution:
The DON oval wheel flowmeter can be equipped with special rotors that reduce the pressure drop by 50%. Using the double quadratic pulse output with hall effect we will have two pulse outputs “A” and “B”, so that the “net” flow rate “A-B” is calculated correctly by the PLC. The net flow value could also be calculated using the ZOD-Z3 electronics with a pulse discriminator. Thanks to these characteristics, we are able to solve all the problems associated with this application and correctly manage the dosage of the resins, with a consequent improvement in the repeatability and quality of the products.
